Tabula RaISE
Sitting height to standing height tables
A versatile dining and working experience
TBR is a woodworking and manufacturing company for the discerning customer who appreciates fine design and impeccable execution. We are dedicated to the crafting of tabula rasa’s (blank slate tables) that can be manually (we prefer connections with gears over buttons) raised and lowered, easily. So the table that is sat around today can be used for something new tomorrow.
Function
A clear, concise design that facilitates the connections in our lives with family, friends and colleagues but fades as we come together. Sparking a moment of inspiration to work, discuss, debate and collaborate. Exemplifying strength, versatility, adaptation, purpose and community.
Form
The table legs sit on a ‘shelf’ enclosed in a box. The shelf is supported by two pins that can be placed in four different positions based on the table height desired. A vise runs through the shelf lifting and lower the table as it is turned. You can achieve your desired height in less than a minute. There are six height settings achieving functional status from 30” to 42”: ——-
Dining height, desk height, counter height, drafting height, standing height, and bar height.
Family
Your work family or your home family connections are made as we physically move and interact with one another in an atmosphere of cooperation and collaboration. Whether your family is putting the last piece of the puzzle together or your team is finalizing the model, standing and moving make these moments experiential. One night it’s a quiet sit down dinner; another evening you are entertaining friends, and gathering around a standing height table is more appropriate. Physical interaction and movement is stimulative and keeps participants present and engaged with each other.
Construction
The difficulty lies in its simplicity. A table with four leg pillars seems simple enough but maintaining strength and rigidity in such a design while maintaining the tables’ ability to be broken down (legs removed) requires a very special kind of connection. These legs are tapped and drilled with a massive 1 1/4” thread size. All Thread is driven into these legs that is then driven into the underside of the table which is itself tapped and threaded to accept that thread. This process makes the connection absolutely rock-solid and still removable for transportation.
